I have replaced electric in tank fuel pumps in several vehicles and have
never had any more problem getting them re-started than any other vehicle
that has run out of fuel. When you first crank the engine the fuel pump only
runs for a couple of seconds then turns off until the engine starts. I have
found that turning the key to the on position for a couple of seconds then
turning off and repeating several times will prime the pump and lines enough
to get the car started (also works well for getting the engine re-started
after changing the fuel filter).
