I have been interested in the installation of the different ignition
systems offered for the Dak. Some of you are saying that the
aftermarket systems completely replace the SBEC's duty as
the ignition controller. I do have an aftermarket ignition on my Dak
but it is only in series with the coil, boosting it's output tremendously.
WHAT replaces the crankshaft and cam sensor? The SBEC needs these
inputs to optimize the fuel injector pulse width, which these aftermarket
systems
cannot control. Anyone following me? As for putting one hellacious spark
in the chamber, MSD or Crane, etc can be put in series and the rev limiter
is through the spark now. The spark is reduced at the desired rpm setting,
in linear increments (I can set my limiter at 100rpm and the truck won't
crank).
The SBEC is one very smart ignition controller, any airflow or fuel changes,
all the sensors take notice and the air/fuel ratio is then determined. It
will
put in as much fuel and timing as the rail, pump and injectors can deliver.
The only area it's lacking is in the way of a fat spark, which can be fixed
by
a series install of a MSD, etc. So if one is running a separated ignition
system, the MP SBEC would be doing what? Controlling fuel?with what inputs?
