I believe it is safe to say that your exhaust exit is dual, but your
headpipes are into a single cat, am I correct? Someone said it correctly that
certain single exhaust systems are definately "tuned" for that application
and produce a wider band of results throughout the rpm range. I had a single
to dual exhaust on my 93 and it ran lean at the wrong time's (throughout the
rpm range) due to the cam profile. So fatten up the fuel delivery you'd
think, then it run's way too rich in other areas, remember, open loop refers
to the memory tables, not sensors, so it has no way to sense lean/rich mixes
throughout the band. I let the engine tell me how to tune the system by the
paint method on my single exhaust. I have a single 2.5 cat with a tuned 2.5
extention behind it (roughly 2 feet long). As one adds newer performance
items, to their "tuned exhaust", that changes the requirements of of that
particular system, in other words, if I add a blower, I need to repaint and
run it again to see where to cut the exhaust shorter. As for looks, most
trucks featured in Sport Truck seem to slide towards the single 3" brand name
exhaust systems instead of duals. Duals also dirty up your roll pan
excessively, not good for looks...
