Re: wheels, tires, ABS, '97 vs old Dakotas

The door frame sticker only indicates what the minimums are for your
specicic GVWR. The base '97 cast aluminum wheels are 15x7. The only
15x6's for '97 are the steelies on the base truck.

As for different size tires front and back and 4WABS I'll let you
know. I'm going the big-n-little route so I'll let everyone know if I
have any problems. I've already had to have one wheel sensor and the
master cylinder replaced already though. The current ABS system is
done by Kelsey-Hayes. I've seen CAD data here (ITT Automotive in
Aubrun Hills, MI....I can see the Chrysler Tech center from the
window) for the '98 DN platform (Durango) for brake components. That
would indicate to me that there is possibly a problem with the current
supplier and Chrysler is looking to our brake group for the
     replacement.

The air box is gonna go!! As soon as I figure out what will fit I'm
gettin' an open element K&N. It looks like I may need to replace the
upper rad. hose with an older model as mine routes around the ac
compressor and runs close the the throttle body intake where the older
hose ran straight over the compressor.

M.P. (according to this month's Truckin' magazine) supposedly has
prototype headers for the '97s. We'll see in time I guess. Everyone
I've called for '97 aftermarket stuff except for a few exceptions is
     saying late spring or summer.

The 235's were an option. Who knows what those guys are thinkin'
     sometimes!!

A friend just got a '97. His door frame sticker also says the rims are
6" wide, and they are the 7" rims. So maybe the preditor wheels are
6.5" not 6"? Where did you get your info Kuk? Anybody measured one
when the tires were off?

Has anybody put different size tires on front and rear with 4 wheel ABS?
Does Dodge have anything to say about this?

the new air cleaner takes up a bunch of room.

I don't see how the Doug Thourly (MOPAR) headers could ever fit.

Why did they put 215 tires on 7" rims? Why not 235s?
