Timing

Hello all,
Just wanted to let you know what happened when I adjusted my timing. I
actually rotated my distributor clockwise (looking form the top down) from
its original stock position about six months ago. The truck pings sometimes
at WOT (Wide Open Throttle) but since I'm rarely at WOT it didn't matter
because the motor was much stronger at all rpm ranges. Two weeks ago a
fellow Dakota owner posted a message to rotate the distributor
counter-clockwise to advance the timing. I thought I had rotated the
distributor the wrong way after reading this post so I loosened the
lock-down bolt and rotated it counter-clockwise. The truck now runs much
smoother and the "raspiness" is gone. But so is some of the power. I
noticed that the low to mid range punch was not like it was before I rotated
the distributor counter-clockwise. I figured that it must get made up for
in the top end. So I took it down to my personal dragstip again. I made
two passes and each pass was 2 and 3 mph slower than before the timing
adjustment. I did notice however, that the truck did not ping at WOT
anymore. I am going to rotate it clockwise, back to the way I had it, to
get my horsies back. I can live with a little pinging and raspiness for the
gain in power. Just my observation.

Thanks, Nelson
