    I don't get cable, and I live out in the middle of nowhere (no tracks
anywhere near) so I haven't seen too many drags. The ones I have seen
were late at night, on the road, in motel rooms, when I should have been
sleeping for the next day's drive. :) In other words, what I'm about
to say is probably completely wrong. ;)

  Anyway, the drag cars that I've seen have a row of levers (4? 5?) To
go to the next gear, the driver throws down the next lever until
they're all down and you're in high gear. I have no idea if they
have to clutch when they're doing this. I guess what would make
the most sense is to have the lever apply the clutch?

  If this is the case, I'm not sure what to call it! Its not an
automatic certainly, and I'd have trouble calling it a manual...
