I asked MSD about their "programmable timing computer" that you can use to
adjust the timing, slope and everything else, and if it would work with the
Dakota. And if it could be used to help the pinging, and this is the
response I got:
--------------------
Sir,
The timing computer will not work with your truck because you will have
the two timing functions fighting each other. You have to keep the
computer (sbec) timing function because of the fuel injection. You can run
one of the adjustable units that allow you to manually change the timing up
to 15 degrees from the dash. The part number on this unit is 8680, and
this will not change the function of the computer, but will allow you to
lower the amount of total with out bothering the function of the
computer.
Thanks,
MSD tech

Does anyone know what the difference is in the programmable unit and the
manual ones with the dash mounted control knob? I thought they both worked
the same way, just one automatically adjusted according to how you
programmed it, and the other adjusted according to how you set the control
knob. From what this guy said, they must be two different beasts. Any
ideas . . .
