Here is another for you and why one reason why I own all Chrysler products
now. I had two 88 Chevy's, one a full size pickup with 305 and 3.42 rear with
posi, the other a Celebrity wagon. The pickup had a problem of fouling plugs
right after start up, I kept complaining and finally they got a bulletin on
it, the problem was that they went to TBI but used the old Carb intake
manifold. The problem was that with the carb they got the rich mixture to
start by closing off the air where as with TBI the added more fuel. The fuel
would lay in the valleys and dips in the manifold and then when started suck
into the nearest cylinders and foul the plugs. Their cure was a sticker to
put on the back of the sun visor stating that immediately after start up hold
the throttle at 1/4 throttle for 6 seconds to clear the excess fuel from the
manifold and it didn't work on mine. I questioned this as to that you never
rev a cold motor like that and that if they knew the problem then fix it. I
know that in 91 they were still using same manifold and still had the same
problem. They said that not enough people complained so they didn't want to
spen the money to change. I told them that if it was not fixed by the time I
was ready to trade then it would be my last chevy, it was my last Chevy..
The Celebrity would warp the front brake rotors in just a few miles, in
42,000 miles they put on 3 new sets of rotors and turned the last set. The
Service manager told me that it was caused from people slowing down to slowly
thus heating the rotors up and that all cars did the same if driven that way.
He asked if I or my wife drove that way and I told him I did all the time, he
said theres your problem. Then I told him I only drove that vehicle
occasionally and that I drove my 87 Horizon all the time for work and drove
it the same way and that I had just had to put the first set of front brake
pads on it and that it has never had a shake in it since new and at the time
of the first set I only had 128,000 miles on it. I said it ain't the driver
it is GM junk. He finally admitted that they had a lot of problem with them
because they were made to thin, not enough meat in them but that they still
use the same ones and would replace them as necessary under warrantee but
after that it was considered normal maintenance.. Bye Bye Chevy..
And GM Posi, is that a joke or what??
