I went with a heavy duty bed mat (heavy enough that the end towards
the tailgate won't roll up on you going down the freeway).. It was
$55.00
and works great. It doesn't protect your wheel wells, or you bed
'box'.
But for me it works fine. It makes if very difficult for things to
slide
around (like jetski, boxes, BRICKS, etc.) We do computer work for Rhino
Liner here in San Diego, and I plan on getting a Rhino liner this
summer.
I had a bed liner in my '91 for 3 years. When I traded in my '91 Dak, I
tried to take out the bed liner (to put into my current '95), NO WAY.
The
bed was completely 'polished' metal (no paint left where the bed liner
contacted the paint). I left the liner in the '91 :)

The Rhino Liner is a permanent thing, but it doesn't 'hurt' any
thing either.. It adds 50# to your truck, but that's a 'blip' to a
dakota! No water cannot get between your bed/liner (like a bed liner
can)
so there's no chance/very little change of rust. They do 'lightly' sand
your bed, then rub it down with alcohol (not JD!), to make sure that the
bed it completely clean-- So the spray will adhere to the surfaces. I
watched one being done... It came out real nice...I want a 'white' one
to match my truck, but a 'marble' fleck might be the way to go...

        Good luck!
