<< I have a 97 Dakota SLT with a noise in the differential. This high pitch
whine is only present at 48 to 53 MPH. The truck is two wheel drive and was
purchased in Sept 96 it now has over 11,000 miles.
The dealer has called Chrysler. Chrysler reports that this is a common
noise
present with all standard rear end units. They also though that my bed
liner
and cover amplify the noise. >>
What gear ratio do you have? Some gear ratios seem to do things like this,
I have had 3 chevy's with 3.42 gears and all did the same thing. I have 3.91
in the Dak and have not noticed any noise in it. If they say it is common
then have them show you anohter one with the same set up that does this. I
had one dealer go way beyond normal trying to cure it, changed the gears and
drive shaft, it was still there.
Good luck
Bill
