The first thing to do is to pull the fault codes and see if there's
anything there. Turn the ignition on, off, on, off, on within five
seconds (not a problem) and leave the switch in the on position. The
CHECK ENGINE light will go out in a few seconds and then will blink.
Count the number of blinks: blink, blink, blink (pause), blink, blink,
blink, blink = 34. All the fault codes are are two digit numbers, i.e.,
23, 34, 45, so you should get two sets of blinks for each fault code
stored by the SBEC (single board engine controller). Two codes that are
of no concern are 12 = battery disconnect and 55 = end of test. All the
engine sensors (that I can think of) have fault codes.

Several list members have shop manuals or lists of fault codes and will
let you know what problems your fault codes indicate (if any).
