John:
I drove a friends '93 4x4 and it has a similar feel to my 97. It doesn't
really wander, but the steering doesn't want to return to center from a
slight inclination. This may give the feel of wandering. If I set the
wheel in a straight line, the truck continues in a straight line. If I
give it a slight turn, it stays that way.
My guess is a combination of the 4x4 front end, mud tires and
steering/suspension stiffness from being brand new. In 4500 km I have
noticed no unusual tire wear.
Please inform us of your results, if your wheel alignment is out, I'll get
mine checked. I've assumed that the dealer does not check alignment at the
first service interval.
