Ditto.. I looked into my 'Dakota #2 mileage records" and found that in
the first month
mileage went from 14.5 up to 17/18 by 5000 miles too.. (I drove 5000 miles
in the first month I
had my '95 Dakota). I put all of my mileage/fuel/repairs in a log book for
taxes, then transfer it
to an Excel Spreadsheet... I note driving conditions, weather, etc...
Expect the mileage to
go up around the 1st oil change, and peak out around 7500 miles... The
rings/parts are still
'seating', so your engine is considered 'tight' until that is completed....
My wife's Corrola
we got in September only got 29 mpg max until 4500 miles, then jumped up to
a high of
36.6 mpg after the first oil change... Now it gets consistant 35 hwy, 29
city... Sickning isn't
it!...

        Sam '95 SLT (1/4 mi - 15.4 sec)
                       (0-92 mph - 15.4 sec)
                                (0-11 mpg 15.4 sec!)
