While on the subject of racing, I was disappointed with my truck for the
first time the other day. Came to a stoplight and a new Toyota Tacoma
V6 pulled up next to me. We raced... I lost. It was close, but he was
ahead most of the time. I have noticed that 1st gear in my truck is
very good, but as soon as I shift to second, (I have V8, 5 spd, 3.21,
CC) I don't stand a chance. If we get going fast enough for me to shift
to third, I blow anyone out of the water. The thing is, I know I would
have blown him away in my 93 4 cyl. Saturn. I've done it before to the
same truck. Anyway, I am getting a K&N air filter tomorrow, hope this
helps my full throttle acceleration. Has anybody else noticed this with
their 2nd gear. Maybe it is just my rear end ratio. I wanted 3.55 but
that is another loooonnnng story. Or maybe it is just that I only have
2200 miles on the engine and it needs more breaking in. Oh well, I
still LOVE my truck. Just wanted to tell my story.

About a week ago I made a comment that I saw in Autoweek that the Tacoma
runs 7.7 sec 0-60 vs V8 Dakota being 8.2 sec (and that was a 3.55 2WD CC).

Someone else pointed out that although the Tacoma is faster, it's really not
geared for torque as a truck, so with an empty load he'll win, but probably
not be very drivable if he's got a load to haul.
