It's been about 3 years since I was truck shopping so I guess I'm fuzzy on
some of the details on automatic transmissions. Ok, so with the Dakota
auto you can select 2nd (somebody said all Dodges, but I don't think the
Intrepid can). I guess it was the Fords that didn't allow this. But
still, if you select 2nd doesn't it allow it to shift between 1st and 2nd?
So on a steep winding uphill it can shift back and forth a lot? This
wouldn't be a problem on downhills, but a manual gets better engine
braking anyways, and stays cooler under load.
