I think you may be a bit fuzzy about automatics. I have driven Dodge, Ferd
and Chev since the '70s and the auto transmissions all (as far as I
remember), allowed you to drop it into 2nd to slow down. My 1989 Sundance
does it, so does my friends 89 New Yorker. I think things were different
for some vehicles out of the early '60s.

I suggest you check with some of the folks who haul heavy RV's as to
whether an automatic is preferred.
