My 96 318 had this same idle problem with a twist. It decided it would sit
idling fine for a minute and then start rev. back and forth from around 400
to 1000rpm. The dealer suggested better fuel at first, but after running
93 octane and still having the same surge, I took it back. They found some
sort of bulletin on this problem, plugged into the computer and about 30
minutes later, volia!! fixed. Now I have this neat little label on my
computer stating when the update was made.

My second question to this is, if they are able to program that computer
in the truck, why hasn't someone released a laptop program to boost
performance to our stock computer? Why are we waiting for a $250.00
replacement? I think someone is out to make a buck. Oh well, I still want
my 25 extra horsepower even if I have to dish out more $$$$. Just
something to think about. . .
