As Keith mentioned in his email, the V6 is a great motor but do not buy it with
the hope of getting 30 mpg on the freeway. These trucks are too heavy to be
econo boxes. My father is on his third V6-powered Dakota. He loves the heck
out of them and his '94 was pretty damn quick the last time I drove it but none
of his trucks have gotten great milage. I think he is somewhere in the low
20s (mpg).

Mileage is pretty important to my dad because he drives at least 40 miles each
way on the way to work. His are *all* highway miles.

Man, the only reason I can think of to order a '98 is when you get that window
sticker that says "Built especially for...". That's a *really* expensive piece
of paper. :^)

I think you should back to the dealer with the *exact* list of options that you
want and tell him/her to search the dealer inventories for your truck. It's
got to be out there somewhere. The dealers in the Madison (WI) area have tons
of '97 Dakotas on the lots. You'll be able to get a pretty good deal on the
'97s now.

Good luck. :^)
