Hi,
I pulled a 16'x8'x8' mobile office trailer with a total length of 20',
tongue wt of 1000lb, and gross weight of about 5000lb with my '96
Dakota, 5.2l, Auto, and 3.55SG w/ towing package from Columbus, OH to
East of Pittsburgh, Pa on I-70. It only had a single axle. It was
impressive to tow a trailer you can put your truck in and still maintain
55 on the highway. It is kinda like pulling a sail.

Since you are planning on towing, concider getting the factory towing
package! I won't buy one with out it.

I wish I had a 5 speed, but for what you are planning, the 3.55 should
work great! I have pulled cars up to 4000lb+ (58 Ford) with no problems
and still got 15mpg.

Hope this helps!
