Had the distributor replaced on my '92 3.9 at about 62K miles after it had
started to backfire/miss/loose power intermittently. After trying to
figure it out for myself for several months (I'm patient or stupid) I took
it to the dealer thinking that it was low fuel pressure. They diagnosed
it as the dist. and replaced the dist. housing, shaft and bushing under
warranty (7/70). They never explained exactly what was wrong with the
distributor, but replacing it cured the problem. I wasn't the roll pin,
but I'm wondering if maybe it wasn't the dist. shaft drive gear which may
not be metal.
