} It's about time for new rubber on my '95 CC 4x4 also and I was talking to
} the Firestone dealer about a week ago. He said that 30x9.50 was as large
} as he would recommend because of the stock rim width of 6.5 inches. I
} don't know what style tire you're looking for (street, off-road,
} all-terrain) but I'm considering the Firestone Firehawk RMT(Recreational
} Maximum Traction) in size LTP255/70R15. I know, 255 is bigger than 235,
} but your stock 235 is a 75 series. The 255/70 is susposed to be about
} the same height as the 235/75 and it will be a little wider. Firestone
} says "This size has the load capacity to replace either the P235/75R15
} Standard Load or Extra Load Tire." Their pamplet says that they will fit
} rims form 6.5 to 9.0 inches. They want about $120 apiece for them.
}
} I just got off the Firestone web page and found that there is a mistake
} in there brochure discribing the Firehawk RMT's I was talking about in my
} last post. The tire size is LTP225/70 not LTP255/70. Specs are: load
} range B; rims: 6.5-9.0; overall diam: 29.4 (which makes it a little
} taller than stock 235's at 29.0); overall width: 10.0; tread width: 7.5
} (in between 30x9.5's and 31x10.5's); tread depth:18/32's
I think your still confused. First the stock rims are only 6" wide. If
you have the cast rims this is stamped into the back, I'm not sure how
the steel rims are marked. 235/75 is the biggest recommended for a 6"
rim but many people use 30x9.5 without problems.
A 225/70 is both a smaller size and a lower profile than the 235/75.
This will be over 1" smaller diameter than stock. 245/70 would be just
slightly shorter than a 235/75 and a 255/70 would be just slightly
taller. (slightly is about .3")
