In a message dated 97-08-17 14:33:27 EDT, you write:

<< Some have suggested that I get an automatic
tranny, instead, but (1) I hate automatic transmissions (I'm an old sports
car racer); (2) I've had great success in towing my previous trailers
(albeit smaller) with stick shift; and, (3) I hate the possibility of
overheating complications often experienced when trailer pulling with an
automatic. Of course, if I was willing to get an automatic, I could look
into the trailer-pulling capabilities of the new-for-'98 Dak R/T 5.9L
(which will probably be restricted because of the "sport" suspension).
Please share your experiences and thoughts with me. Thanks. (P.S. - I
know that a Ram 5.9L would be a better tow vehicle, but my wife and I like
 smaller vehicles.) >>

I have a 93 Dak V8 3.90 SG 2 WD CC and have a 94 Innsbrook 35' Travel trailer
which I have pulled with my Dak. I had no problems other than the sway you
get when a Big Rig passes from behind. (typical for a Travel Trailer of this
size). I had always like Standard 4 sp or 5 sp but When buying my 88 Cheby
the Auto was rated to haul much more than the Manual so I had to go auto then
when I got my 93 Dak with V8 the Manual was not available. After towing with
the Auto I would not go back to a Manual. The Dak has Max payload and trailer
towing package and tows without a problem. When we camped with the big
trailer we alwaays had a challenge getting it parked and pulled back out, the
auto made this task much easier than slipping the clutch and messing around
with the Manual in theser situations. It was also easier on the road because
it was automatically in the right gear for the road conditions. I had one
vehicle with the manual with a much smaller camper but was constantly
shifting and the vehicle would heat up more from the lugging in the higher
gears. I would have to shift down and let it wind just to cool it down. A
properly set up Auto will is the way to go.

My 2 cents

Bill
