I just changed my tranny fluid a couple of weeks ago. It was probably the
first time since the truck was built. The interval is 37K for '87 automatics.
I found quite a few metal chips in the filter, probably from the manufacturing.
I'd suggest that the first fluid change *is* important at 12K, but after
that 30K or so would be OK. This would remove any residue from
the manufacturing.
