Given the fact you have a Mazda (the one you are keeping), you
either have a B2200, or B2600 (or a B2000!). Mileage on those run 20-24
mpg. Not too bad.
Are you looking at a Club Cab or a Std. Cab?? With
a V6 you will be in the 18-22 mpg range (2-wheel), and with a V8 you will
be in the 14-18 mpg range (expect an all around of 16 with a 2-wheel).
These are club cab numbers, Std. cab will get a little better (1or2 tops),
4
wheel will be 1-2 mpg less (as listed by 4 wheel people on this list).
V6's are good for people that are really into getting the best
mileage, while the V8's are for people who could care less (yeah right,
want trade gas bills anyone?!?). A V6 towing a heavy load can get worse
mileage than a V8 towing the same weight, as the V8 will be working
less at the same towing speed. So that's something to keep in mind.
V8's in Club Cab 4x2 have a 6700# tow rating with a 5speed (expect
6500# as you would exceed your GCVR if you towed 6700#).
I'm at 70500 miles on my '95, and I put 81000 miles on my
'91. I'll buy a 3rd in 3 years....
