As far as I know, reverse gear has no synchros. However, first gear
does, so when you momentarily shift into first it brings the reverse
gear up to speed so that you decrease the amount of gear clash when
shifting into reverse.
My '95 NV3500 has done this since Day One, and come to think of it
so did my '84 S-10, so I don't worry about it too much.
