This kind of paint is referred to as "Flip Flop Pearl". Yes, it is more
expensive than standard paint, but no it is not $800.00 per gallon. You
can get it from any automotive paint store, or they can order it for
you. It is usually mixed into the clear coat, but can also be mixed into
transparent colors such as Candy Apple Red, or Blue. The different
colors you see at different angles are the different colors of pearl
that were added, most likely each is in is own coat of clear. A
gentleman I grew up around was a custom bike painter when he was
younger, told me of a job he had to do on a bunch of bikes all belonging
to one of the local clubs in Omaha Nb. They decided on a new logo and
wanted him to paint it on their tanks. Using F/F Pearl, he airbrushed
Mickey Mouse giving you the bird. This was in full color and could not
be seen from directly on. You had to be at an angle. He said that they
passed the word around as to the quality his work and he got allot of
business from those guys. Go to one of the custom car/truck or bike
shows and you will see allot of this type of paint. Be forewarned
though. It does not have the highest tolerance for UV which is why you
usually only see it on show vehicles.
