Hi. What a great mailing list you have all put together! I went back
through the archives to get a feel for it, and last couple days just
reinforced my decision to sign on.

I have definitely decided to get a new '98 Dakota. Here is my situation.
After a number of 4WD SUV's since Jeep Wagoneer's long ago, and two current
SUV's, I am ready for a pickup. The Dakota was an easy choice, rekindling
a long ago love affair with "The Dodge Boys." Since the truck will replace
an SUV that I leased (who could have passed up a $206/month, $229 with tax,
30 month lease on a well-equiped Trooper?) when the lease ends in March, I
thought I would order one to get it just the way I want it. I assumed a
4WD Club Cab Dakota Sport + with the V8, 3.90 and automatic. I then
learned that the R/T was "coming soon" and found one Dodge press release
(still on www.media.chrysler.com) saying it would come in 4WD. Another
spot on the same site says it will only come in 2WD. I will soon call a
specific guy at Dodge at a number I pulled off the archive and see if I can
update for all of us interested. I also noted both on my own and on the
archive that a full time 4WD option is supposedly available (as in
Durango), but it now appears that such is also delayed for some reason. I
will also update this for us if I can with Dodge. Neither will affect my
going forward for March, but I would like to have both the 4WD R/T and full
time 4WD. One question that some of you will know the answer to: does the
ABS system work when part time 4WD is engaged; how about on the Durango
when the full time 4WD is engaged?

I will have a lot more questions going forward, and hope to be able to
contribute as well. Charlie Schliebs
