Re: Extended warranty...

Extended warranties are a little bit like religion. Everyone has an opinion,
but nobody necessarily knows why. This is partially based on the fact that
extended warranties are designed to play on your fears of potential future
failures, which are always a possibility. However, check VERY carefully
at what is and what is not covered. Many people will tell you that their
extended warranties covered them during some horrendous periods of bad luck,
and they are probably right. But we've had more than a few tales of woe
from warranty purchasers who found that if a component wasn't explicitly
detailed in the warranty text, it wasn't covered, and ended up paying big
repair bucks anyway.

Don't rely on extended warranties to absolve you of necessary routine
maintenance. You are still on the hook to repair consumable items like
fluids, belts, brakes, clutches, etc..

If you're gonna buy one, make sure it's underwritten by Chrysler Corp.
I wouldn't trust a 3rd party vendor at all.

These are high-profit items, which is why many dealers like to pull the
hard sell. Also ask yourself whether that $1500 or whatever you'll spend on
the warranty wouldn't do better if it were invested somewhere before you
need it for that big repair job.
