Dan, the 12 stands for power loss (disconnected battery) sometime in
recent past, nothing to worry about. The sound you are speaking of
when you start up, is it a noticable taping sound, if so its probably
lifter stick. Mine does it every morning, but soon quiets as soon as
the oil starts to flow. As for the pinging, try using some 93 octane
gas and put a bottle of octane boost. See if it still does it. If
is does not its probably due to your timing being a little too far
advanced, probably a good possibility since you say your timming
chain has recently been replaced. I remember Kuk once talking about
tweaking the distributor shaft to slightly adjust timming.
