FIPK finally

Well, finally installed an Edelbrock clone FIPK last night. Actually,
I'm only 3/4 of the way there because I haven't put in the K&N element
yet (had to order it). Sooo... at the moment I'm running with the paper
element that came with the Edelbrock unit. Is there any noticeable
difference in performance, etc. between an open element paper filter and
the oil gauze K&N filter - ie. is it worth $35 more?

Thanks to Sean Meldrum for the FABM info and S bolt design. Works like a
charm. I ended up using a 5" 1/4x20 hex bolt, cutting off the head and
some of the shank, and then cutting threads on the new end. Quite a bit
stronger than bending threaded rod.

Thanks to Robert Trottmann for warning us of his hood anti-dimple
experience. It made me extremely cautious (read paranoid) about making
sure the new bolt was not too long.

Not as much hissing noise as I expected for general around town driving.
Throttle response and willingness to rev seems better - must be the
extra 50 hp added by all that chrome. ;}

A question about the new sounds though... I get the characteristic drone
during full or mostly full throttle acceleration - not as dramatic as
the Quadrajet on the old 72 Buick 455 of my high school days. :( During
part throttle acceleration when I'm just starting to get on it, I notice
a brief shrieking noise. This noise disappears when the throttle opening
is increased or reduced. Does this sound consistent with what other
folks have experienced?

Do I over analyze stuff or what? ;}

Next mod... Gibson cat back... now where did I stash that $300...
