Radar detectors are illegal in VA. If the cop knows you have it,
don't plan on ever seeing it again.

The Valentine Ones are supposed to be undetectable by VG-2 until you get
within a couple of feet of the unit. (Car & Driver tests) They have
a nice remote mounted display option too. Costs extra of course, but
very sneaky. :-) (I don't need the remote display here in NY. They're
still legal here.) If anyone is in the market for a radar detector, I HIGHLY
recommend the V1. They are the best that money can buy.

Despite that, I use my radar detector as sort of a "backup". Just
because it doesn't detect anything doesn't mean that there isn't a cop
sitting out there with instant-on. And no radar detector will save you
from VASCAR. You've gotta rely on your eyes to do that. Watch for lines
painted on the road, and aircraft in the sky. If the fuzz are really
sneaky, they will use bridges or other landmarks as timing points rather
than lines painted on the road, in which case all you can do is watch
for aircraft, which is really hard when you're trying to drive.
