I need to remove the front air dam / bumper valence on my 97 Dakota.=20
Do I need to remove the entire bumper assembly or can I leave the
upper bumper bar attached the the truck and only remove the lower=20
valence? If I need to remove the bumper bar... do I want to detach=20
the bumper bar from the two brackets holding it to the frame... or
do I want to detach the brackets from the frame?=20

Any info would be appreciated.=20

First of all, you really cant get to the bolt/clamps that hold the =
stock
valance on without pulling the bumper. If you do, the factory has
stapled the lower valance to a heavy rubber sheet that seals out some =
of
the elements. If you want to reinstall this piece, cut the plastic
fasteners and replaced them to remove the valance. If not, just cut =
that
thing and toss it. As far as pulling the bumper face bar, you'll have
four bolts under the hood just beneath the grille surround and four =
more
that attach the bumper mounts to the frame. If you pull the others, you
get to realign your bumper when you put it back onto the truck. It's
just easier to remove the bracket-to-frame bolts, Unclip the driving
light plugs, move the inner fender plastic liner around the bumper (one
side at a time) and remove the bumper. Do it with the hood up so you
don't bump the grille.

Hope this helps..
