WD-40 attracts dirt. You don't have to be in a dusty environment, either.
Every time you stick your key in the lock, the dirt on the key (from pocket
lint, dirty hands or whatever) will rub off in the WD-40 and build up over
time inside the lock. Also, the tiny dust particles that are always in the
air can and will get into the lock and WD-40 will hold them. Unless you do
regular maintenance on the lock, this build up will eventually lead to
stiff, hard to turn locks. Powdered graphite is the best thing to use.
Silicone spray is also OK since it doesn't hold the dirt like WD-40.
