A reasonable price for a new '98 Dakota R/T?

Hello DML members:

Have been lurking here for a few weeks, trying to gather some info about the
R/T's, as I wanted to purchase one in the near future. Well, after lots of
research, web surfing, DML list reviewing, etc., I decided to do some dealer
hunting. Here is what I have found, and wondered if this deal sounded
reasonable to you vets of the Dak purchasing scene. I have located a dealer
in my area (kind of close) that will do the following: Sell me a 98 R/T,
ordered the way I want it (Club Cab with almost all the options), for $500
over invoice. Also I have to put down a $500 deposit, which will be
credited toward my order upon delivery. Judging from the list traffic and
newsgroup postings, this sounds like maybe a decent deal, although I
probably could haggle some if I felt the need (this price was all quoted via
Internet, I have not even been to this dealership yet). Does this sound
reasonable? For a $22K or so invoice price ($25K or so MSRP with all the
options I want), and considering the (real or imagined) demand for the R/T,
I thought so, but I have only purchased 1 other brand new vehicle in my
life, so I'm not a very good judge of what is a good deal. Inputs welcomed
and appreciated. Also, regarding the deposit - if I decide not to purchase
the truck, obviously the deposit goes away. But, is there a chance they
order my truck, have it delivered, and some yahoo offers MSRP for it when
he/she sees it being unloaded, dealer gives him/her the truck I ordered, and
returns my deposit? Just curious, as I am not at all familiar with this
notion of a dealer "deposit". I would much rather take care of all the
financing up front, and be peaceful with the notion that when my truck rolls
of the line and ships to my dealer (which BTW, the dealer says lead time
right now is 8-10 weeks), it is destined for me and no one else.

Sorry for the length, appreciate any and all comments, and look forward (if
this purchase goes through) to being a longtime DML member.

Regards,

Mark Colaluca
