The width on the side of the tire (235 or whatever) is the maximum width
of the tire. This is the bulge in the sidewalls, not the tread width.
Lower profile tires have wider tread widths for a given tire width. A
245/60 has a wider TREAD width than a 245/70. Look up the numbers on
the Dunlop web page.
