Setting the timing

Hi, guys...this may sound like a stupid question, but is there a way to manually set the base timing on the 5.2/5.9 magnum V8's with a inductive timing light? I am most fimilar with 5.0 ford engines and we change the timing around all of the time to get varying levels of performance. They almost always run better with more timing than the factory settings. I have owned my DAK R/T for a week and still haven't figured out how to adjust or even check the factory set timing.
