Welcome to the wonderful world of owning a new Dodge Dakota !!
The reason your truck ran like shit was because it went into a mode
called "Limited Drive". When your truck's computer sees something it
really doesn't like, it will shut the engine out of its higher rpm
operating range. This is a signal that can be cleared by plugging into
the diagnostic port under your steering column. As far as governors go,
you've not only got a speed governor, but a rev limiter as well. You're
governed all over the place by your Dakota. Surprise!!! You're being
treated like a child by the manufacturer. Go have fun now...
But keep it under 117mph and 5200 rpm.
