Well Installed the Mopar Performance 14" air filter
yesterday. Man it sounds like I dropped a 426
Hemi in the thing! Sounds great. Also installed
180 degree thermostat with new NAPA radiator
hose (Thanks for the part # Russ). The
Mopar air filter lid has ribs in it just like the MP
valve covers, looks great. A couple of comments
on the Install. First the radiator hose was good it
completely eliminated any clearance problems for
the air filter. The only problem with the hose is
it rests on the 2 A/C lines. I even lifted the hose
off the thermostat housing as far as I could within
reason but it still sits on the lines kinda heavy.
This hose would be perfect if the thermostat end
was about 1.5 inches taller. I'll just keep an eye
on it although it does have nylon mesh were it rides
on the lines. The MP air filter is really not 14" like
it says. It measures 12.75 OD / 11.00 ID / 2.75 tall.
This actually worked out pretty nicely because it
allowed plenty of clearance everywhere. Only one
problem. When I shut the hood the leading edge
of the filter lid (the ribbed part) was wearing away
my hood liner. No problem though I believe if
it doesn't fit make it fit (round peg in the square
hole syndrome). I simply disassembled it laid
the bottom of the filter housing on a brick to raise
(the part that sits on the throttle body) the outer
edge off the ground. I then stood on top of it and
while balancing raised my right foot up took aim at
the front area (that's where it was contacting the
hood the rear was fine) and let her rip. Worked great!
I would recommend using tennis shoes while performing
this maneuver as it took me over an hour with a ball paean
hammer to knock my size 13 construction boot heel
imprint back out of the filter base. After that was done
painted the base high temp black and wala! This air
filter looks great and the sound alone has to be worth
150 HP :~).
