I had an AMC car in 1974 called a Matador Coupe. Looked like a big Camero of
the era. Was a 2 door hard top with a very plush interior and was powered by
a 360 cu in V8 that AMC built. But it had a GM Delco ignition system and
power steering pump, a Ford autolite carburetor and a 727 Chrysler Torque
Flite transmission. Was about 275 hp with a 2bbl carb or about 305 hp with a
4 bbl carb. Was also built in a 304 cu in and a 401 cu in displacement.
Many highway patrol cars used the 4 door version with the 360 4v or the 401
4v engines and the 727 Trans. This company started as Nash motors and made
Kelvinator appliances, became Rambler, Then AMC and joined with Jeep which
became part of Chrysler and the AMC part was dropped. The 360 V8s and the
232/258 straight 6 engines were used by Chrysler until they developed their
own 4.0L 6. They also did a dumb thing and used some anemic GM 4 and V6
motors at one time. (JUNK) The 360 engine is in no way related to the 360
Mopar engine but were always mated to the CC trans.
