  Depends on how you define OK. I wonder how many people here would enjoy
pouring new Babbitt bearings every 10,000 miles? ;)

  Interesting tidbit: I believe a Chrysler engineer finally convinced the
company to start installing stock oil and air filtration systems on their
products in the 30s. Eventually, all the manufacturers followed suit after
analyzing the decrease in warranty repairs and realizing this would actually
save them money. Prior to that, oil and air filters were offered as an
aftermarket item. I've seen some old Warshawski (aka JC Whitney) catalogs
from the period and there were quite a few 3rd party filter manufacturers.
