Mike, I don't recall what year your truck. I assume 97-98. Mines a 98 and I
just did this Thursday. I agree with Brian Lee who's already posted back to
you, generally. He's given a good view of how it goes. The left side is a
bitch! Too many hoses and harnesses! You will prevail, however!
The kit comes with most of what you'll need. I did mine a little differently
from Brian. The kit comes with bolts about 1/16th inch longer than stock. I
used some of them and kept some of the studs. I wanted to retain a factory
appearence so kept the wiring looms which pull straight up off the studs. The
one one the right side has a neat holder for ther heater hose, too.
My truck is almost new with just a few 1000 miles. I was able to reuse the
stock gaskets. They were still in excellent shape and it appears to me like
they are meant to be reused at least once! I kept the new ones for "just in
case".
One other thing. I have the new oil filler cap on the left cover in the stock
location. You will note the PCV system is a "cloed loop" design with PCV on
the right rear and another hose with fitting from air cleaner bonnet to the
rear of the left cover. The old fitting on the old cover will not transfer
over. Because the great state of CA has such strict new car smog laws, I
went with a Mopar push in breather that will hook up to the existing hose from
the aircleaner bonnet. Part number 53030254. It's a stock Chrysler part, not
Mopar Performance. It's black and looks like it was always there!
