Welcome to the list! I just hope you dont need it to find a new tranny. If
you want more life out of your tranny, always lock out o/d until you are going
a consistent 50mph or better, then let it engage. My 92 A518 is truly a slush
box. Under normal acceleration, O/D engages at 30mph then at 40mph, the
torque converter locks-up again so that I am turning 1.3-1.5 RPMs @ 40mph.
There is no power, just stress on the overdrive band. You might suffer a
little in gas milage, but your tranny will last longer. Oh and NEVER tow
anything or load up the bed with anything and use O/D!!
Thats just asking for trouble.
Has anyone out there tried to reverse the lockout system? I would rather have
O/D locked out when I start the thing, then when you want it, you hit the
button to engage. Can this be done with the hydraulic 518?
