Well, When I noticed my thermostat leaking I was about 1/4 into filling
my tank with premium. I had a 1/4 tank of regular in it prior. Sooo on
a 1/2 to 1/2 ratio I have no pinging to date and I flogged it pretty
hard at lunch. Ill fill it with premium for the track, but with my mpg
its not too hard to experiment.

JET told me in an e-mail that the R/T using 91 octane or better
"...will..." gain 20-24HP at the rear wheels .
As with anything else that changes the timing/fuel delivery , I would be
safe in guessing "YES" premo is required equipment for the game .
