Colin,
  Again, I disagree.
The thermostat never shuts down (closes) after it has opened unless
there is something funny going on with the engine. Now, granted, maybe
as the engine is warming up, it may get a blast of cooler antifreeze
that may temporarily close it a bit, but once the truck warms up, it
stays open. Believe me, if that thing closed up when the motor was hot,
you'd be pegging your temperature needle every 2 minutes.
  The thermostat opens at its intended opening temp-most are 180-195.
It stays open after that because the antifreeze runs 220 or so. There
is more than sufficient transfer of heat to the radiator as the coolant
flows through the tubes from tank to tank, it doesnt have to sit there.
