TCI make an aluminum finned pan that holds 2 extra quarts of fluid (I
assume it's deeper) for the 727, part no. 128000

Will this fit an R/T (46RE)? I haven't looked under there lately but I
recall the Y-pipes are in the vicinity. I'll take a closer look when I
do the headers this weekend.

                Bob,
The 44RE has the same pan bolt pattern as the "904"
tranny. Mopar
Performance has a pan for the 904 PN P4120162 but it is
NOT deep enough
                to fit.
B&M does not make a pan to fit the 904 but TCI does. The
TCI PN is
127900 and can be ordered through someone like JEGS,
(price approx.
                $81.00). What you
would need to do is to measure the stock tranny pan from
the tranny down
and then call TCI and find out if their pan is deep
enough. The pan is a
                finned aluminum
item that holds an additional 2 qts over the stock 904
pan (remember
yours is deeper than a stock 904). You may not need the
pickup extension
                that they ship
with the pan. I personally have not worked on the 44RE
but I do think
                this is worth checking into.
The 42RE & 46RE trannys have the same bolt pattern as
the old TF-727. I
used the Moper Performance PN P4120161 on my 95 46RE. I
did not need the
                pickup
extension supplied with the pan. Sometime around 98
Dodge changed the
valve body / filter arrangement in the 46RE. I needed to
use the finned
                aluminum B&M
727 pan on my 98, additionally I needed to remove the
fins within the
pan to provide clearance for the filter. Again I did not
need to run the
                pickup extension with
with this combination. B&M PN 10280. I also run an
external oil filter
and a cooler (stacked plate type). With this
combination, tranny fluid
                changes take 8 Qts.
                        Frank
