I don't know of any cat-back system that's sold like that, but you
could easily make your own. (And it would be a lot cheaper than a cat-back.)
All you really need is the muffler and a turn-down. Cut the pipe
after the cat, stick the muffler on there (using an adapter if the
sizes are different), and then put the turn-down on the end of the
muffler. It doesn't get much shorter than that. You'd just have
to make sure you had a good way of securing the muffler to the bed
or the frame so it wouldn't shift around or fall out.
I considered doing something similar to what you're talking about
here. I tow sometimes and I go on long trips occasionally, and I
wasn't sure wether I'd be able to stand the resonating. I've heard
some people complain about noise from exhausts that exit before
the tire; I can only immagine what the sound would be like exiting
right under the truck! Of course, if you couldn't stand it either, you
could always have a muffler shop bend up some pipe for a side exit.
