For maximum road holding and predictable behavior at the limit (in terms
of handling):
285s are too wide for a 9" rim.
275 is marginal. 255 is optimal.
I think Yokohama make a truck version of their AVS tire in a 255/50-17
size. That would be the closest.

Just get a wider tire with a shorter sidewall. As long
