DML,
Yeah and Im amazed every time my neighbor starts his up at 5:00am. Im
amazed I dont go out and shoot it so I can sleep. I like the peace and
quiet of a highly tuned gasoline engine personally. I can imagine what itd
be like if He really had to warm it up (I live in San Diego...)
BKB, wishing for a diesel free zone
P.S. Dr Diesel commited suicide due to the depression caused by his "failed"
design. It never performed the way he "anticipated" it should...

This year's Cummins is a real monster. Ford finally got off their butt's
and made their PowerStruck engine a match for the Cummins so Cummins hit
back.
I think it's up to 250hp and 430#'s torque. It's getting up to a match the
V-10 almost. If you want some serious power out of the diesel you can add
about another $2K of mods from Gale Banks and crank out 300hp and 500#'s of
torque. I think that'd tow a couple of houses. Problem is, the tranny's
aren't keeping up with the engines and they are blowing out left and right
on
the heavy hauling dude's. CC says they're working on it.
The mileage the diesels get is incredible. I'm amazed everytime I see my
Dad's or Brother's fuel bill. It's way less than mine.

The main advantage of the diesel is excellent mileage _under load_. The
Cummins will simply haul much more efficiently than the gasoline engines.
You do pay a penalty in the power department, however, and the speed at
which the diesel can apply it's torque is limited. That's why your
acceleration
falls off. There is a difference between 250hp/300ft-lb and 200hp/500ft-lb
(guesstimate, I don't have specs handy).
There are other advantages gasoline engines have over diesel, like initial
cost and maintenance ease/cost. So it's always a trade off.
