It depends on which engine is in the S10. Everyone here seems to short
sell the S10 V-6, but which one, it has had 3 different V-6s. First was
the 2.8 which is the orginal dog of all dogs. It can't pull its own
weight much else that of a truck. Then came the 4.3 160 hp. This was a
pretty good motor but it ran out of steam at about 50 mph. Peppy around
town, but no drag truck. Then came the optional 190 hp model which I
believe is up to 200 HP now. These things will haul. Autoweek tested
one in a club cab and it ran 15.80s right off the showroom floor. What
does a V-8 Dakota Club Cab auto run competely stock. I've never ran
mine, but based on my other cars that I have ran it felt like it would
run about 16.30 stock. I do know that my S10 was faster than my Dakota
(both being completely stock), up to about 70, if you was to punch them
both at 75 the Dakota would run off and leave the S10. But at the low
end guess that lighter weight made a difference.
