There is an FCC ruling on radar detectors. I believe they are covered under
part 97 of the regulations. VA makes a stink about them. If you make an
issue about being stopped with a detector, your only recourse (if you want
to fight it) is to go to court.
Yes indeed, the airwaves are free; except in VA. (So they would have you
believe.)

They did make a ruleing however VA chooses to ignore it. BTW are RD
illegal in CA?
